Latest News:

23rd August Update: No definite proposals have been made to us by the relevant Ministers, but we do know that positive  discussions about possible sites are continuing. The Club's AGM returned all serving committee members, including President, John Walker, Vice-President Greg Gallagher and Secretary Mick Hayes, and added Jason Neiberding as Public Officer.  Membership renewals are now due - many already received, including some new members.  Looking forward to seeing old friends and Club members Jim and Susan Smith, coming over from Edinburgh for the Speedway GP in Melbourne in October!

3rd July Update: As we are waiting for news from the Minister's office regarding possible locations for a track in the ACT, we have delayed our AGM to WEDNESDAY 10th August 2016, at the Weston Club, 1 Liardet Street, Weston ACT, start 7:00pm.  The main item on the agenda will be the election of officers for the 2016/17 year.   Please come along and have your say, and maybe put yourself up for election - this year might just be the year!!

The meeting will be followed by a general committee meeting.

2nd July Update: Sorry, readers, I've been a bit slack in updating these pages lately. We've been in discussion with the ACT Government in the past few weeks.  It's too early to say which way we'll go, but there are interesting possibilities.  James Dimmock has been representing us at various tracks, including being nominated reserve for the Australian Under-21 Championships at Gillman. Adam Thompson has been busy putting a new sidecar together, and we should soon have new club shirts to show around the tracks. Minutes of the recent Committee Meetings are available here.

11 January Update:  Fantastic to watch the Mildura round of the Aussie Solo Championships live on NRGTV (thanks guys - you did well!) last night. And even better to see Brady Kurtz - son of founding Canberra Bulls rider, Steve Kurtz (3rd from right in the attached 1981 team photo) - as the 2016 Australian Champion! It was fortuitous how the points fell right at the end, but - as runner-up Sam Masters generously said - all riders drop points here and there. Brady is a deserving champion - particularly as he had to go through the qualifying round before even racing in the event!

Minutes of the December Committee Meeting are available.  Possible progress at Yass.

4 November Update: Minutes of the October Committee Meeting are available- Jake Schneider (CBSMC member) won the Australian U16 Dirt Track Championship at Tamworth!

15th September Update: With three good meetings under our belts at Bega, we are starting to feel like an active club again.  Young Bulls, James Dimmock, Pat McLaughlin and Jake Schneider have been starring in the solos, and Adam Thompson in sidecars.  A very positive meeting was held with the Marchmont Trust and the Yass Council Chief Planner, and the Yass track proposal could be back "on track" soon. Minutes of the September Committee Meeting are available.

We are now "live" with an Indiegogo crowd-funding appeal to raise money to buy the land needed for a track in Canberra.  Please go to to support our appeal and tell all your friends too.  The appeal ends in two months time.

13 July Update:

28 June Update: Bulls Roar again - at last! Excellent first meeting at Sapphire Speedway, Bega last Sunday. Positive signs from Yass too.  Meeting to be arranged with Yass Council. Minutes of the June Committee Meeting are available.

13 May Update: Minutes of the April Committee Meeting are available. Bega meet - Sunday 21st June - being prepared.  Still nothing from Yass, in spite of numerous calls.

8 April Update: Minutes of the March Committee Meeting are available. The Club will be running club days for all speedway classes at the Bega track - Sundays 21st June, 26th July and 9th August - in conjunction with the Far South Coast Motorcycle Club's Dirt-track days.

18 February Update: Minutes of the February Committee Meeting are available.  James Dimmock and Adam Thompson putting in some good performances at tracks as far away as Maryborough (Qld).

12 February Update: Please note that Club Committee meetings will now be held on the second WEDNESDAY of each month, commencing March 11th, at the Weston Club, Liardet St, Weston, 7pm starts.

12 January Update: James Dimmock will represent the Bulls at the Australian Under 21 Championships at Kurri Kurri this weekend!!  Our first club representative at National level in the new Bulls era!!  Go and support him!!

1 January 2015 Update

Hi Everyone.  Happy New Year!  We're going to be moving our website over the next few weeks.  The new site is up and running already - Thompson is taking over the webmaster duties including the maintenance of our Facebook site -, and, fittingly for the new generation of Canberra Bulls, he has also set up a Twitter account (whatever that is!) - try @CanBullSpeedway for the latest from Adam!  It's hard to believe that when the Bulls first came together as a club in 1980 the whole idea of home computing or social media didn't exist.   We made do with a cheap typewriter and a second hand Roneo copier (look it up in the history books!), and if we wanted to circulate news about the Club the best way was to type it out and take it around to Paul Gover, then motoring editor of the Canberra Times, who did a great job for us in finding space on the sports pages.  Anyway, we're hoping for big things from 2015 for speedway in our part of the world, so keep it touch!

30 November Update: Minutes of the November Committee Meeting are available.  Waiting on news of Yass.  Arranging for Officials' accreditation courses.

31 October Update: Minutes of the October Committee Meeting are available.  The Club is at last looking forward to having access to a track suitable for club level racing and coaching days.  Negotiations with the Marchmont Trust for access to the old short-circuit track south of Yass are proceeding.  Our younger members continue to acquit themselves well at Kurri and Nepean.

14 August Update:  Minutes of the August Committee Meeting are available Quite a positive mood at the Club, with generally good news about tracks in our region - Moruya, Bega, Yass, and maybe - at last - Canberra!  Our members are taking advantage of existing racing opportunities, but looking forward to the possibility of more "home" meetings in the future!

30 July Update:  Minutes of the 2014 AGM and July Committee Meeting are available The AGM brought some new faces to our Committee, including Pat McLaughlin as Public Officer and Adam Thompson as Webmaster and Sidecar Development Officer. The following general meeting heard that tracks in Moruya and Bega had been inspected with a view to restoring their licences for bike speedway.  Opportunities for solos and sidecars in the region look like improving!  In addition, the club was approached by the Classic Rear Engine Speedway Club to accept their members into our club and set up a four-wheeler section. The suggestion was well received and will be explored further.

Here's a great shot of James Dimmock at Jason Crump's training school recently, and Adam Thompson and Del Levy flying in the other direction.

20 May Update:  Minutes of the 13th May Committee Meeting are available. Highlights: - New hopes for a track in Yass. Results from race meetings.

19 March Update:  Minutes of the 8th April Committee Meeting are available. Highlights: - Discussions of slow progress towards tracks in Canberra, Yass and Moruya. Club to purchase a marquee in club colours to add professionalism to our appearances at shows etc.

8 April Update: Once again, the Canberra Bulls' club banner was seen all around the world by viewers of the NZ round of the Speedway Grand Prix in Auckland last Saturday.  We should have put it a bit higher this year, perhaps, but where else does Canberra get publicity like this?

19 March Update:  Minutes of the 11th March Committee Meeting are available. Highlights: - Continuing progress towards acquiring land in the ACT for a track.  Emerging possibility of restoring the disused short circuit track at Yass.

17 January Update:  Bulls roar again in Albury's Speedway Sidecar Slam!

New Canberra Bulls, Adam Thompson and Dani Levy (right) competed in an international field including world champion Mick Headland, sidecar legend Darren Treloar and riders from the UK and NZ at Albury on 18th January. Dani, latest product of the great speedway racing Levy family, was having her first rides as a sidecar passenger.
